I was hoping the 120 pages was all EMP goodness. Alas, the first 60 are about 'how to prepare for disasters' of which one is EMP. It has lots of good information but buyer beware it is only about 20 pages of EMP, 20 of Solar Storms, and the lots of pictures :-)I was looking for a book on how to build the best faraday box and this has some good info but didn't answer some of more more specific questions.

Well written book, covers a full range of scenarios for EMP attack and Solar CME events. Using the data from the book I purchased some 3M DRI SHIELD 2000 bags in several sizes from Production Automation Corporation, Eden Prairie, MN. {www.gotopac.com). Now I've got my important electronics items protected. Also discovered my Seal-A-Meal seals these bags very neatly. Not only do these bags protect against EMI but they also keep items dry!
Having recently built a solar generator I was interested in protecting it should there be an EMP attack or solar storm. I wanted to learn more about Faraday cages and how to build one and this book gave me the answers I was looking for.
If you want to understand EMP and CME's and the big difference, this is an excellent reference. The author packs a chart of how he tested various combinations to achieve EMP protection. That alone is worth the price because most of what people advise to do is useless, giving a false sense of security.
We may never be subjected to an EMP attack, but a solar storm might happen at any time. This book lays out practical steps anyone can take to be ready to deal with either eventuality. While there may be a bit too much technical jargon and formulas for some, they're there if you want them.
Highlights for me were the author's real-world tests on the best ways to protect delicate electronics, and how to build your own Faraday cage with nothing more than a cardboard box, aluminum foil and tape. A lot of very worthwhile information - buy a copy, you won't be disappointed.
I expected this book to be packed with more technical information but the first four chapters was generic preparation for disasters stuff and promo of Dr. Bradley's other books. I did not see the information I was looking for and was a little disappointed that Dr. Bradley did not include specific frequency distributions from EMP and solar flares. Information in the book was more relevant to "EMP ATTACKS AND SOLAR FLARES FOR DUMMYS".
Great prepper book. It is good to see a credentialed person with a lab doing tests to confirm their information. I give this book a 5 star rating because of the thoroughness of the testing. . .and the common sense approach to EMPs and solar storms. As a side note. . . Mr. Bradley answered all of the questions and comments on his blog with straight forward comments and helpful suggestions. A number of people asked questions out of incorrect conceptions of pending problems. The answers were, indeed, quite refreshing.
This is a well thought out preparedness how-to manual. It is going into my preparedness library. I have read approximately 10 different preparedness manuals and most of them were interesting reading but offered very little in the way of useful advice. This book actually does offer a lot of useful advice and for that reason it is a keeper. I don't expect to survive a plane crash in the ian jungle nor do I expect to get stranded in the high Himalayas, so preparedness books that outline out to cope with those exigencies make interesting reading but are of no use to those of us who, perhaps, are more concerned with sheltering in place and how to cope with the lack the every day services that we depend upon that have gone missing and may be so for an extended period of time.This book addresses that in detail. I am looking forward to his revised edition of this manual with anticipation.
